Remembering Danielle Moore
It is with great sadness that the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences has received news that Danielle Moore, a 2015 summer student, was among the passengers aboard the Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi that crashed on March 10, 2019, killing 157 people.
Danielle, 24, was traveling to Nairobi to attend a UN environmental conference. On March 9, she posted a message on social media, excited for the opportunity to “discuss global environmental issues, share stories, and connect with other youth and leaders from all over the world.” Having been selected to attend this international conference, Danielle wrote that she felt “beyond privileged to be receiving this opportunity.”
Danielle was a 2017 graduate of Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada where she studied marine biology and oceanography. In 2015 she participated in BIOS’s summer course on the ecology and evolution of reef fishes. She was working both as a member of the clean ocean advocacy group Ocean Wise and as an education lead at the charity Canada Learning Code, and was a volunteer for Canada’s Sea Turtle Centre. She was indeed a bright young woman with a very promising future, and we offer our sincerest condolences to her family.
